Introduction

Syngenta previously used Excel spreadsheets to collect and distribute data. These files were managed via Microsoft SharePoint to both employees of Syngenta and contractors working on winter production in South America. Contractors would edit the relevant information and then resubmit the data back to Syngenta. This data was then used to assess the status of the various fields and predict crop yields.  Manifest Interactive was brought on to automate their business needs to greatly increase the accuracy and reliability of their data for everyone. rule

Overview

These files had approached the practical limits of Excel’s capabilities and were restricting Syngenta’s potential for growth. There is little confidence from Syngenta’s staff and its contractors in the current system as it lacks the ability to accurately reflect the status of winter production.

Syngenta's file system contained redundant data, data not applicable to contractors and erroneous data. No restrictions or requirements were placed on the data that can be input by contractors. A manual overview of the information was required to assess its validity. This overview, however, did not always uncover hidden problems or omissions. The file sizes were also restrictive to users with slower internet connections.

Information was not always available in a timely manner. There were issues with accessing data from outside a Syngenta branch office. Even with access it would still take several hours to obtain an answer to a question because various parts of information are aggregated at different times throughout the day. For example, a sale may take place in the morning but the inventory does not reflect this sale until the evening. This prevented Syngenta from having an accurate assessment of current inventory between those two times.

It was imperative that Syngenta implement a globally-accessible centralized application that provided the most up-to-date information, screens that monitor information for validity and distinguishes between actual data and forecasted data. 

The application developed by Manifest Interactive was built to automate the majority of the tasks that are currently performed manually. This dramatically increased productivity while simultaneously providing more reliable information to both Syngenta and its contractors.
