Introduction

HEGA TV needed to compliment their amazing front-end design capabilities with an equally impressive, custom built, Content Management System. Our custom CMS back-end acts as the foundation for all data and asset management for the entire Nike Snowboarding web site.

Overview

Back-end CMS Web Application

A Customer-facing PHP / MySQL web application that is the back-end CMS. Its features include:

• Built upon Customized Manifest Interactive PHP framework
• Use MySQL as a database
• Manage all content displayed on the web sites, excluding content within custom Flash Microsite Experiences produced and developed by HEGA.
• Support an average of 100,000 page views per day and up to 250,000 page views when a major product launch happens - and support and average of 10,000 to 20,000 visitors per day.
• Support Akamai Edge Caching through Edge-control response headers.
• Support three phases of development

  • Staging
  • Production
• From the content publisher's perspective, the CMS's published content will support four status levels:
  • Draft - Content that is in progress, but not yet visible on the site in any way.
  • Live - Content that is on the live site.
  • Closed - Content that exists in the database but is expired or otherwise no longer visible on the site.
• Page URLs have the ability to have query strings appended to them.
• User management for two levels of users:
  • Content publishers (i.e. the Customer), can only publish, edit, and remove content on the system
  • Administrators (i.e. HEGA), have full permissions to publish, edit, and remove content along with make system level changes
• Universal tagging mechanism which permits content publishers the ability to tag content with a set of human-generated tags. Tags can be single words or multiple words.
• Visitor-facing search functionality. A service for handling auto-completion of tags that will also apply to the CMS interface when entering tags associated with various content types.
• Built-in metrics tracking for pages and content types, limited to number of views for each.
  
• A send-to-a-friend feature, which will mail a URL to a designated recipient. The feature will use some HTML templates (designed and developed by HEGA) and plain text templates with replaceable strings (for sender's name, recipient's name, page title, and page URL) along with images embedded into e-mail as base64-encoded image types with content-IDs.
• A kill switch for the site will need to exist for "closing" the site should anything go wrong for some reason during a move from Staging to Production.
